Recommendations for HARAKI on the island of Rhodes
I’ve dreamed of Haraki in Rhodes for years. I made a short stop there in the past, on the way from Rhodes town to Lindos, and I promised myself I would return. Twenty years later, I finally arrived, and this time with the kids.

I usually book hotels in the fall or winter for the summer. This year I didn’t do it, it was a mistake, so when I decided to fly and found a flight at a good price, the room stock in Haraki was extremely limited, almost full to the brim. I wasn’t able to book what I wanted and there was only one tiny, partially air-conditioned apartment left. I took it. Whatever happens, happens, but don’t do like me. Book in advance.

Haraki is a fishing village located on the east coast (the best) of Rhodes, about half an hour by car/taxi from the airport. It is a stunning bay, around which, on the beach, are the fishermen’s houses that used to have one floor, and with the development of tourism, they became two or three floors, with one floor usually used as a vacation apartment.

There are no big hotels here, no all-inclusives and chaos, and that’s all that’s good here. Authentic, small, cheap, cozy and delicious. A small church, two minimarkets, a few tavernas, an excellent Italian restaurant that I have no idea how it got here, a small pebble beach that’s nice for bare feet, four or five fishing boats, and that’s about it.

You can sit in the shallow water and ask the Greek sitting on the balcony of his house what time it is. Exactly. Heaven on earth and everything I love about Greece. I knew in advance that with the kids you can’t lie on the beach for 8 days and you need some water park (located nearby, in Paliaki) or a jump to Lindos (also close, just in the other direction). In short, for the first time I ordered a car through Booking.com. Surprise, great price. Peak of the season, 280 euros for 8 days, air-conditioned and automatic car. We received the car, activated Waze and an hour and a half after we arrived in Haraki.
