Recommendation for a vacation in the fishing village of Lefkada in Crete
A fantastic recommendation for a perfect vacation in the fishing village of Lefkada in Crete
This recommendation is suitable for those looking for the real Greece, outside the resorts.
Those who want a Greek vacation unlike the all-inclusive hotels where you don’t really know if you’re vacationing in Antalya, Palma, or Rhodes.

How did I get to this very unfamiliar village? I scoured the booking site for its length and vehicle.
I moved my mouse over the northern coastline of Crete, village by village, checked Google Photos, Google Earth, TripAdvisor and Booking.com, and so, after days of searching, comparing places and checking hotels, I decided that’s where I wanted to go. To this little-known place, which is only about an hour’s drive from the airport and Heraklion. I chose a hotel with a high score, a gorgeous beach, a restaurant/bar on the water that just from the pictures had my imagination working overtime.
Shall we begin?
My husband and I landed in Heraklion. We picked up the car we had rented in advance at the airport.

If you arrive on weekdays, I suggest you go into town for a moment and buy a local SIM card from the “Germanus” company. Although there is no shortage of companies and you can find them everywhere, this branch is really close to the airport. Enter the city, look to the right and look for this sign.
Driving on the north coast of Crete is very convenient. Get on the main road and drive west until you reach the exit on the right for the village of Bali.

On the way, at the green gas station, we stopped for coffee, my favorite pastry, bogatsa, and the stunning view of the sea and the magnificent coves of Agia Pelagia (don’t pronounce the letter G, it sounds like a Y). It’s a good place to stop for refreshments, coffee, snacks, etc.

We continued towards the fishing village of Lely. We parked near the hotel and when I realized the room wasn’t ready yet, we left our bags and went down to the beach.
What can I tell you? Above and beyond my imagination. A gorgeous beach, a gorgeous view, the atmosphere of Greece from 20 years ago. I took a breath and was flooded with good energy. Very good.
