Who am I and what am I recommending?

My name is Orit Lev and I am the one who writes for you on the website and Facebook page “Orit’s Recommendations”
I have always loved to patronize special people and businesses and share with people the good things I have experienced along the way, in Israel and around the world (4 years in the Far East, 7 years in Greece and more here and there…not much, just a little). Over the years I have noticed that people really trust my recommendations, try them, enjoy them and return with good experiences. It made me happy.

In February 2013, I opened a private Facebook account and began recommending places to be, things to do, and other pleasures to my friends. Orit’s “Recommendations” gained momentum, thousands of friends and followers joined, and requests for recommendations started coming in. At this point, I realized I was onto something good and decided to build a website and recommend only things that I like, that I would like to experience myself, and that I think my real-life and virtual friends should know about. At the same time, I continue to do what I love. I am an elementary school teacher with a master’s degree in education. I am married and the mother of two adorable children (Hamsa, Garlic, Pepper, and Olive Oil).

I travel around the country and the world, meet fascinating people and special places, and recommend what I love. I try to publish several recommendations a week and invest positive energy in writing a unique and fluent recommendation – at eye level, reflecting my experience from the recommended place. I really hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing.
How do I choose who and what to recommend?
How do you reach me or how do I reach you?
Some of my recommendations are initiated by me from my past and present experience, and now I come to most of the recommendations after people contact me. I don’t connect with everything, so I do an initial mapping and at the end of the process I reach people who intrigue me (it has happened before that I reached a place at the end of the world to the left… then to the right again to discover that it was not to my personal taste. I politely said that I could not recommend and moved on. I will never slander, there is no arguing about taste and smell, I simply will not write at all).
I am impressed, taste, try, measure, photograph and talk to people over a cup of coffee to understand who and what is behind the place. Finally, I write a recommendation that describes my authentic experience of the place. I add photos, ways to contact the recommender, a website, a Facebook page, Instagram and publish on my website for an entire year during which the recommendation is exposed to a large audience.

Some data from the field: As of 2025, the website, which went up in early January 2015, has passed 5 million views, the Facebook page, which has about 60 thousand followers, reaches a million views per month and counting. That’s what happens when you love what you do, and do what you love.
